Our Academics
Here at FLANC, we believe in a holistic approach to education. It is our mission to create active and productive members of society.
We continuously seek to create a challenging learning environment that encourages high expectations for success through development-appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles.
Our school promotes a safe, orderly, caring, and supportive environment. Each student’s self-esteem is fostered by positive relationships with students and staff. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved on our students’ learning.
We strive to challenge our students in multiple areas of academics, outlined below.

Literacy
FLANC adopted Wonders by McGraw Hill Education as our reading curriculum. Wonders is a comprehensive K-4 program built on Ohio ELA standards.
Wonders is filled with informational texts that range across many genres, eras and cultures. Students engage with essential questions, rich vocabulary, complex texts and collaboration with peers. This literacy program provides rigorous instruction and leveled small group instruction.
Powerful technology and data from this program can be used to target instruction for every child. This provides every instructional minute to count, as students move ahead efficiently, always focused on the skills needed, strategies and standards.

Science
FLANC has employed the STEAM education model, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music. We feel that all aspects of STEAM are integral to the intellectual, emotional and mental growth of our students.

Mathematics
If reading is the foundation of education then mathematics is the frame. We understand the importance of mathematics in everyday life, and understand that some students can be intimidate by mathematics; however, we positively push and encourage them to break past this and learn to love math. All math instruction is Common Core and grade level based.
We utilize Zearn Math to integrate the personalized digital learning with the curriculum which plays a significant role in helping our students learn the precise math content they need to master. Zearn is a program and a curriculum that has transformed the math pedagogy in our school by combining daily small group instruction with personalized digital lessons. Students learn new math concepts digitally on their own pace and teachers provide differentiated small group instructions to meet the needs of every learner. Zearn also allows the advanced students to keep progressing to higher-level math concepts and provides the students who are struggling with immediate remediation to ensure mastering the math concept they need to learn.

Arabic Language Instruction
We have two full time Arabic Language Instructors for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.
We strive to teach the children a language that is integral to not only their religion, but their culture, and their future. Our Arabic teachers are highly qualified in the language. The language staff have had over 16 combined years of teaching the language.
During the elementary years, our staff focuses on instilling the Arabic alphabet and neat, precise penmanship. Throughout the middle school years, our teachers focus on word recognition and sentence structure. These values will help to create a more comprehensive understanding of the Arabic language.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Because most of our students come from various parts of Africa, we strive to foster an environment where the children can learn a new language without feeling left out, left behind, or confused. Therefore, we have designed a program to boost the English language acquisition of our students.
We currently have five ESL instructors, and our staff is highly trained and qualified to teach children new to the country the English language and bridge the gap between their native language and English. Between the ESL staff members, there are 20 combined years of teaching to students who are English deficient. They are caring and dedicated, offering constructive help when needed.

Physical Education
FLANC's Physical Education Curriculum is designed to develop in students the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that promote a healthy level of physical fitness and lead to a commitment to consistent, lifelong participation in physical activity.
